The Lion Sleeps Tonight: as histórias por trás da mais famosa música sul-africana

A letra da canção africana mais famosa de todos os tempos, “Mbube” (leão, em zulu, uma das 11 línguas oficiais da África do Sul), foi escrita em 1920 por um menino chamado Solomon Linda. Ele tinha apenas 11 anos. Linda esperou 19 anos até conseguir gravá-la com seu grupo vocal, The Evening Birds. Em 1939, depois de um trabalho no hotel The Carlton, ele arrumou emprego no primeiro estúdio de som instalado no continente africano, o Gallo, em Joanesburgo. Certa tarde, ele e o grupo foram autorizados a usar o estúdio por 15 minutos.
